Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil two key Assam projects on 21 December. His visit is set to energise the state’s industrial and agricultural future. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said preparations are underway to ensure a smooth and successful event. He confirmed that Assam will receive two major gifts — the upgraded Guwahati Airport and the new ammonia-urea plant at Namrup.
Modi will visit Naharkatia to lay the foundation stone for a major urea production facility at the Namrup Fertiliser Plant. The unit will have a projected annual capacity of 1.2 million metric tonnes. It is considered one of the most important fertiliser infrastructure upgrades in the Northeast in decades. The project is expected to boost the region’s industrial ecosystem and support farming communities.
Sarma said the project will strengthen domestic urea availability, generate large-scale employment and help Assam develop a robust network of allied industries. The state expects completion within three years of construction kickoff.
Ahead of the visit, the Chief Minister reviewed the venue, security arrangements and inter-departmental coordination. Top officials, including Chief Secretary Ravi Kota and ministers Piyush Hazarika and Prashant Phukan, joined the inspection. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to address a public meeting at 10:30 am, highlighting the project’s significance for the Northeast.
