Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Assam from December 20 to 21, during which he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects worth nearly ₹15,600 crore.

On Saturday, PM Modi will arrive in Guwahati and inaugurate the new terminal building at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. He will also inspect the facility and address a public gathering. The newly constructed integrated terminal, spread over 1.4 lakh square metres, has the capacity to handle 1.3 crore passengers annually. The project includes major upgrades to the runway, apron, taxiways, and airfield systems, significantly boosting Assam’s connectivity and economic growth.

The terminal is India’s first nature-themed airport, inspired by Assam’s biodiversity and cultural heritage with a “Bamboo Garden” concept. Around 140 metric tonnes of bamboo sourced from the Northeast have been used. It features Kaziranga-inspired landscapes, Japi motifs, a rhino symbol, and 57 garden-themed pillars, along with a unique “Aakash Van” housing nearly one lakh native plants.

On Sunday morning, PM Modi will pay tribute to the martyrs of the historic Assam Movement at the Shaheed Smarak in Boragaon. Later, he will visit Namrup in Dibrugarh district to lay the foundation stone of a brownfield ammonia-urea fertilizer project of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL).

With an investment of over ₹10,600 crore, the project will meet fertilizer demand in Assam and neighbouring states, reduce import dependency, generate employment, and boost regional economic development.
