Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (November 3, 2025) advised BJP MPs from West Bengal to ensure that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the State remains “straightforward” and does not turn into a political controversy. The Prime Minister emphasized that the SIR’s sole purpose is to include eligible voters and remove ineligible entries, and must be conducted transparently.

Mr. Modi met the MPs as part of his regular interactions with State-wise groups during the Parliament session. A day after meeting Assam MPs, he engaged with the West Bengal delegation, reminding them that the State is moving toward elections and urging them to concentrate on ground-level organisation and outreach.

The Prime Minister reportedly told the MPs that unnecessary disputes around the SIR could shift focus from the core electoral preparations. He stressed discipline, constructive public engagement, and strengthening booth-level presence ahead of next year’s polls.
