Police Crack Down on Online Cricket Betting Gang in Guntur
Police in Guntur busted an eight-member gang involved in illegal online cricket betting and seized cash and electronic devices used in the operation. Acting on specific information, special teams conducted raids at multiple locations and arrested the accused, who were allegedly operating betting activities during ongoing cricket matches.
According to the Superintendent of Police, the police seized ₹13.60 lakh in cash from the accused and froze ₹5.05 lakh involved in online transactions linked to betting accounts. The police also recovered eight mobile phones, a laptop, debit and credit cards, and other materials used to facilitate illegal transactions.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the gang was collecting money from bettors through digital payment platforms and distributing winnings after deducting commissions. The accused were reportedly maintaining records digitally to avoid detection.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and further investigation is underway to trace additional links and identify others involved in the betting network.
