Ongole police seized 11 kilograms of ganja from a passenger train on Monday, in a significant crackdown on drug trafficking in the region. The operation was carried out after intelligence inputs suggested the presence of illegal substances being transported through the railway network.
During the search, officers recovered the ganja concealed in baggage and took the individuals carrying it into custody for further investigation. The police confirmed that the seizure is part of an ongoing effort to curb the circulation of narcotics and prevent their distribution in urban and rural areas of Andhra Pradesh.
Authorities stated that stringent action would be taken against those involved under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The incident highlights the vigilance of local law enforcement and their coordination with railway authorities to detect and prevent illicit drug transportation. The investigation is ongoing to identify the source and intended recipients of the seized ganja.
