Political Bias by Governors Against State Governments Is Unacceptable: Yanamala
Former Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, said that political or partial treatment of State governments by Governors is wrong and should not happen. He spoke to the media in Vijayawada on Friday and expressed concern over the role of Governors in some States.
Mr. Yanamala said the Constitution of India does not allow Governors to act in an undemocratic manner. He added that the role of a Governor should be neutral and not influenced by political interests. According to him, treating elected State governments differently in different States goes against constitutional values.
He said Governors must respect the mandate given by the people and work in cooperation with State governments. Any unnecessary interference can affect democracy and governance. Mr. Yanamala urged constitutional authorities to follow the rules strictly and maintain the dignity of their office. He said such actions are important to protect democracy and federal structure of the country.
