The President Murmu visits Sri Ranganathaswamy temple in Tamil Nadu’s Srirangam, offering prayers and receiving traditional honours from the temple priests.
On Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Trichy from Tiruvarur aboard an Indian Air Force helicopter. She landed on a temporary helipad near the Kollidam River and then travelled by road to the temple.
At the southern entrance of the towering Ranga Ranga Gopuram, temple priests performed the Poorna Kumbha rituals to welcome her. Trichy District Collector Saravanan, HR&CE Commissioner Sridhar, and several officials greeted her warmly. The temple elephant Andal also offered fruits as part of the traditional welcome.
Inside the temple, the President entered through the Aryabhattal entrance and had darshan of Lord Ranganatha, worshipped as Periya Perumal. She also visited the shrine of Goddess Ranganayaki (Thayar) and the sanctum dedicated to Saint Ramanuja, travelling between shrines in a battery-operated car.
The President Murmu visits Sri Ranganathaswamy temple lasted about 30 minutes. Before leaving, Chief Priest Sundar Bhattar performed farewell rituals at the Raja Raja Gopuram with full ceremonial honours.
