Private travels buses are increasingly becoming death wagons, raising serious concerns about road safety. In one of the worst tragedies, on October 30, 2013, a Jabbar Travels bus caught fire near Palem in Mahabubnagar, killing 45 passengers on board. Now, yet another horrific accident has claimed over 20 lives, once again exposing the negligence in this sector.
Overspeeding, rash driving, poorly maintained vehicles, and complete disregard for safety norms are costing innocent lives. While authorities conduct checks for a few days after every major accident, monitoring soon disappears, allowing private operators to return to unsafe practices.
Unless there is strict enforcement, regular inspections, accountability, and adoption of mandatory safety standards, such tragedies are bound to recur, putting thousands of passengers at risk every single day.
