Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced a ₹30 crore grant for Punjabi University, Patiala, reinforcing the Punjab government’s commitment to higher education. The announcement came during the 10th anniversary event of the Zariya Foundation held on campus. Mann said the financial aid will ensure that students’ education continues smoothly and the university faces no operational disruptions.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Punjabi University is not just an educational institution but a stronghold of Punjabi language, literature, and culture. He said the government considers investment in education to be the biggest investment and has ensured there is no budget cut in the sector despite financial constraints.
The university, one of North India’s premier institutions dedicated to regional language and culture, has faced financial challenges over the past few years, impacting academic activities. The ₹30 crore grant is expected to address key needs, including salaries, administrative costs, and development of libraries, laboratories, and digital resources.
Mann urged students to focus on their studies and work towards making Punjab proud globally. University authorities welcomed the announcement and assured that the funds will be utilized transparently to benefit thousands of students pursuing higher education in literature, linguistics, arts, science, and other streams.
