Punjab farmers meeting postponed after the state government deferred scheduled talks with farmer groups on Monday. The meeting will now take place on December 30. Farmer unions said the government requested more time to review their demands.
The Punjab government was set to hold discussions with the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha. The talks focused on issues arising from the removal of protest sites at Shambhu and Khanauri borders. Farmers have demanded compensation for losses suffered during police action at these locations.
Farmer leaders are also seeking relief for crop damage caused by recent floods in Punjab. They want the government to provide timely compensation to affected cultivators. Another key demand includes the withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Bill. Farmers want the state assembly to pass a resolution cancelling it.
Senior farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher confirmed the postponement. He said the government sought additional time to prepare responses. The unions agreed to reschedule the meeting to allow meaningful dialogue.
The December 30 meeting is expected to cover all pending demands in detail. Farmer representatives hope the talks will lead to concrete decisions. They warned that delays without outcomes could intensify future protests.
The government has not issued further comments beyond the revised meeting date.
