A woman from Punjab who travelled to Pakistan as part of a Sikh pilgrimage group has not returned with the rest of the jatha. Sarbjit Kaur, a resident of Amanipur village in Kapurthala, crossed into Pakistan on November 4 to attend the Parkash Purb celebrations at Gurdwara Nankana Sahib. When the group returned on Thursday night, she was missing.
Police said the jatha included more than 1,900 Sikh pilgrims. Officials began checking her whereabouts after her absence was confirmed. Three FIRs have been registered in Kapurthala, and immigration authorities in Pakistan have notified their Indian counterparts about the case.
Sarbjit was also scheduled to visit other major Sikh shrines during the 10-day pilgrimage. This was the first jatha allowed to travel after Operation Sindoor, following months of restricted movement. The Union government had granted approval on October 2 after earlier refusing permission due to security concerns.
Authorities are now coordinating with her family and village representatives as the investigation moves forward.
