Punjab Power Employees Protest Govt Move on PSPCL, PSTCL Assets

Punjab power employees protest government move

Punjab power employees protest government move to appoint non-technical officers above chief engineers in PSPCL and PSTCL. Unions believe this step will ease the sale or lease of prime properties worth hundreds of crores in Ludhiana, Mohali, Jalandhar, and Amritsar. They insist these lands are important for the corporations’ future projects.

Soon after the announcement, unions called a joint meeting. Groups like the PSEB Engineers Association, Junior Engineers’ Union, and Employees Federation joined hands. Leaders warned that they would stage protests and strikes if the government touched department assets. They said Punjab’s financial troubles cannot be solved by selling PSPCL and PSTCL properties.

Power Minister Sanjeev Arora said only “useless” properties will be sold, and the money will stay with the corporations. He argued that idle lands serve no purpose. Employees, however, accused the government of weakening the power sector. They said posting non-technical staff above engineers is unfair and risky.

Unions also demanded more recruitment to fill staff shortages. They stressed that the focus should be on strengthening PSPCL and PSTCL, not selling valuable assets. Workers vowed to resist any move that harms the corporations’ future.
