Punjab Rajya Sabha Forgery Scandal: Navneet Chaturvedi Sent to Jail

Punjab Rajya Sabha Forgery Case courtroom scene

The Punjab Rajya Sabha Forgery Case created a stir in the state. Police arrested Navneet Chaturvedi for forging signatures of ten AAP MLAs. The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Ropar sent him to judicial custody.

Chaturvedi told police that Vijay Sharma, a Delhi resident, promised him support from sixty AAP MLAs. Believing this, he filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election. When Sharma failed to send a support letter, Chaturvedi copied MLA signatures from the Election Commission website and used them.

SSP Ropar Gulneet Singh Khurana said police would question Vijay Sharma soon. Chaturvedi agreed to send his nomination papers for forensic testing. He admitted that he forged the signatures for fame.

Earlier, Chandigarh and Ropar police argued over his arrest. The court later gave Ropar police custody on October 16. AAP MLA Dinesh Chadha lodged the complaint. Police booked Chaturvedi under several forgery sections of the BNS.

The case shocked political circles and raised serious questions about the nomination process in Punjab.
