The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has summoned senior Patiala Police officers in two separate cases. The Commission called the Patiala SP and DSP City-1 for failing to act on complaints linked to Scheduled Caste families.
Commission chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi said a 70-year-old complainant, Ram Prashad of Balbera village, approached the panel. He alleged negligence after the death of his son Gurtej Singh. Gurtej worked at a shop and died on December 13, 2025. The family received a call at 11 am informing them of his death.
Police placed the body in the mortuary and reportedly advised cremation under Section 174 proceedings. The family later saw severe burn injuries on the body. They claimed police ignored repeated requests for proper investigation. Despite Commission directions, police allegedly took no action. DSP City-1 Satnam Singh must appear before the Commission on January 14, 2026.
In another case, the Commission summoned SP Swarnjit Kaur of the Punjab Bureau of Investigation, Patiala. The case relates to a complaint by Sukhdeep Kaur of Dhamo Majra village. She accused SHO Baljit Singh of inaction. Police allegedly ignored Commission instructions in this matter as well.
The Commission said accountability remains essential to protect Scheduled Caste rights. Further action will follow after hearings.
