The Punjab Government will present two important Bills in the Vidhan Sabha tomorrow. Both aim to improve planned development and strengthen urban infrastructure.
The Punjab Town Improvement (Amendment) Bill, 2025 will unlock funds from properties lying unused with 23 improvement trusts. These funds will move to a municipal development fund for use in 167 civic bodies across Punjab. Earlier, the 1922 Act blocked use of such funds outside trust areas.
This change will help sell unutilised properties in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala, and Rajpura. The money will then support planned development projects across towns and cities.
The Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2025 will ensure colonies and new areas develop in an organised way.
Other Bills to be tabled include the Seeds (Punjab Amendment) Bill, Punjab Right to Business (Amendment) Bill, Punjab GST (Amendment) Bill, and Punjab Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill.
