Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is ready to keep fuel flowing to India without interruption. His remarks came during a summit in New Delhi, where energy, defence, and trade shaped the discussions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Putin for his steady support for India’s energy needs.
Putin highlighted Russia’s role as a major supplier of oil, gas, and coal to India. He said Russia will continue supporting India’s fast-growing economy. Modi stressed that energy security stays central to India’s partnership with Russia.
India became a key buyer of Russian oil after the Ukraine war. The country imported about 1.8 million barrels per day in 2024. This accounted for nearly 36 percent of India’s crude supply. Recent pressure from Washington pushed New Delhi to cut some purchases. The US imposed steep tariffs on Indian goods, citing India’s continued oil trade with Moscow.
Putin shared updates on the Ukraine situation and mentioned discussions with global partners on peace efforts. Modi said India will keep pushing for dialogue and stability.
Both leaders agreed on an economic program that runs until 2030. It aims to create balanced and diverse trade. Defence cooperation also remained important, though no final deal emerged from the meetings.
