Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has strongly criticised the recently announced India-U.S. trade deal. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “compromised” and under pressure when the agreement was finalised, and that this pressured situation forced him to accept the deal. Gandhi also said that Modi was too afraid to let him speak in Parliament about the issues before the House was adjourned amid protests over other matters. He accused the Prime Minister of “selling out” the hard work of Indian farmers in making the deal and harming national interests. Gandhi pointed to two main reasons he believes Modi was under pressure: an ongoing U.S. legal case involving industrialist Gautam Adani and the still-unreleased Epstein files. Rahul Gandhi called for more transparency and answers about the deal’s terms and impact on India’s economy and sovereignty.
