Rahul Gandhi has urged the Centre to provide a larger Punjab flood relief package. He called the Rs 1,600 crore announced by PM Modi “a grave injustice” to the state.

During his visit to Amritsar and Gurdaspur on September 15, Gandhi saw the severe flood damage firsthand. Millions of homes were destroyed. Crops on over 4 lakh acres were ruined, and many animals were swept away. Posting a video on X (formerly Twitter), he said Punjab suffered losses worth Rs 20,000 crore due to the floods.

Gandhi praised the courage of Punjab’s people. He said, “I am confident they will rise again with the right support.” Earlier, he wrote to PM Modi asking for urgent aid. He emphasized, “We must reassure every farmer, soldier, and family in Punjab that India stands with them.”

The floods affected over 2,300 villages in all 23 districts. They destroyed standing crops on 4.81 lakh acres and claimed 57 lives. Gandhi stressed that a proper Punjab flood relief package is crucial to help the state recover quickly.
