The demand for reservation in private jobs has been active in Bihar for years. Recently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, along with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, announced 10 resolutions for Extremely Backward Castes (EBC). This step shows that Rahul Gandhi is slowly moving towards supporting reservation in private jobs.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also raised this issue earlier, pointing out the loss of public sector jobs and the need to secure opportunities for SCs, STs, and OBCs. Even former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee once supported the idea of private sector reservations.
The EBC resolutions for Bihar promise to make “Not Found Suitable” illegal in government recruitment and extend reservations to private educational institutions. A parliamentary report also suggested quotas in private higher education, backed with government funding.
Though there is no formal law yet, informal talks within Congress are happening. Rahul Gandhi has been focusing on Dalit and backward class politics, aiming to expand reservation beyond 50%. This agenda seems to be part of Congress’s long-term strategy for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
