The Rajaji Elephant Safari New Hope story begins in the Chilla Zone, where the safari reopened this year with seven elephants. Visitors now experience wildlife closely, while the elephants share their inspiring journeys of rescue, recovery and new purpose. The Rajaji Elephant Safari New Hope initiative highlights how care and compassion transform lives.
Radha and Rangili lead the team and guide tourists through the forest. Radha, the senior elephant, nurtured young elephants like Rani, Johnny, Sultan and baby Kamal with motherly affection. Rangili supports her with calm discipline and teaches young elephants the rules of the wild.
Raja, once trapped in conflict, now guides forest staff safely during monsoon. Rani, rescued as a three-month-old calf, grew into a friendly and fast-learning elephant. Johnny and Sultan, both orphaned, behave like brothers and help the camp team daily. Baby Kamal stays close to Radha as he learns his first steps in the forest.
Officials say the Chilla elephant camp proves that compassion builds harmony between humans and wildlife. During monsoon, these elephants patrol flooded forest paths and protect sensitive zones. Their strength and understanding make them an essential part of Rajaji Tiger Reserve.
