The dispute over Rajasthan’s mandatory Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) for principals and superintendents intensified on Sunday after administrative doctors warned of collective resignation. The escalation prompted Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar to hold an urgent meeting at SMS Medical College in Jaipur with Medical Education Secretary Ambrish Kumar, Commissioner Iqbal Khan, the college principal and superintendents.
Khimsar urged doctors to view the issue as a family matter and explained the government’s rationale behind enforcing NPA for administrative posts. He invited suggestions on how to manage key responsibilities more effectively before any final order is issued.
Secretary Ambrish Kumar appealed to senior doctors to give up private practice and devote full-time attention to patient care and teaching, highlighting the heavy workload across 30 medical colleges and 50 hospitals. Acknowledging that some may face financial loss, he indicated that the government could consider additional incentives. Officials also discussed offering relaxation in the age limit for administrative roles to widen the pool of eligible candidates.
