The Rajasthan government has taken a major step to strengthen students’ learning habits in government schools.
The School Education Department has made daily newspaper reading mandatory for all students.
The department issued the official order on December 31.

Under the new directive, students must read newspapers for ten minutes every day.
Schools will include this activity during the morning prayer assembly.
Students will read major national, international, and sports news aloud.
Editorial highlights and important developments will also be discussed.

The initiative aims to improve awareness of current affairs among students.
It also seeks to strengthen reading habits and language skills.

To enhance vocabulary, schools will introduce five new words daily with meanings.
Students from Classes 6 to 12 will take responsibility for this activity.

The order clearly defines newspaper requirements for schools.
Senior secondary schools must subscribe to at least two newspapers.
These must include one Hindi and one English daily.
Government upper primary schools must subscribe to two Hindi newspapers.

English-medium government schools must also keep one English and one Hindi newspaper.
During prayer assemblies, students will read from both language newspapers.

The Education Department believes this move will boost general knowledge.
Officials say it will improve expression, confidence, and language fluency.
The government expects schools to implement the order without delay.
