Rajnath Singh Lauds Defence PSUs on Receiving Miniratna Status
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday congratulated four public sector undertakings (PSUs) in the defence sector for being conferred with Miniratna status, a recognition that grants them greater financial and operational autonomy. The companies—Munitions India Limited (MIL), Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), India Optel Limited (IOL), and Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL)—were praised for their consistent performance, strategic importance, and contribution to India’s defence capabilities. Singh highlighted that the Miniratna status will enable these PSUs to make faster decisions regarding capital expenditure, investments, and collaborations, thereby enhancing efficiency and competitiveness. Officials noted that the recognition also reflects the government’s focus on strengthening domestic defence production under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The Defence Minister emphasized that such advancements are crucial for modernizing India’s armed forces, boosting indigenous manufacturing, and reducing dependence on imports. The PSUs are expected to leverage their new status to expand production capabilities and undertake innovative projects in defence technology
