A storm has hit Bihar politics after the Ramsurat Rai BJP ticket controversy erupted in Muzaffarpur. Former minister Ramsurat Rai expressed anger after being denied a ticket for the Aurai Assembly seat. He said the BJP gave his seat to Rama Nishad, wife of former MP Ajay Nishad, who recently returned to the BJP from the Congress.
Rai reminded the party of his 2020 victory by 48,000 votes, calling it one of Bihar’s largest margins. He claimed to have developed Aurai through roads, bridges, and electrification projects. Despite his service, his ticket was canceled, which he called unfair. BJP workers too are said to be upset over the inclusion of “opportunistic elements.”
Rai, a BJP leader since 2010, was a minister in the Nitish Kumar government. The controversy has stirred dissent within the party ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, urging BJP leadership to rethink its decision.
