Relief for AIG Prashant Kumar: High Court Order Sparks Fresh Legal Twist

Relief for AIG Prashant Kumar after Patna High Court quashes corruption FIR

Relief for AIG Prashant Kumar came after the Patna High Court quashed a corruption FIR against him. The ruling gave immediate relief to the senior police officer. Relief for AIG Prashant Kumar has also sparked a fresh legal fight at the national level.

Justice Purnendu Singh delivered the verdict in the Patna High Court. As a result, the court dismissed the FIR registered by the Special Vigilance Unit (SVU). At the time of the case, Prashant Kumar served as Assistant Inspector General of the Tirhut Division in Muzaffarpur.

However, the SVU strongly disagreed with the decision. Therefore, the agency decided to move the Supreme Court. Officials confirmed that they will file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) soon.

Meanwhile, this case has drawn wider attention. Notably, it marks the second FIR quashed by the High Court within ten days. Earlier, the court dismissed a similar case against Bihar Administrative Service officer Shweta Mishra.

The SVU had registered the FIR against Prashant Kumar in November 2022. The agency alleged that he owned assets worth ₹2.03 crore more than his known income.

According to the SVU, the investigation into movable and immovable assets is still underway. Hence, the agency believes the High Court order came too early and wants the Supreme Court to review it.
