Senior Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury strongly criticized BRS for staying away from the Vice President election. She called the move “a shame” and questioned why the party could not support a Telugu candidate contesting for a top national post.
Chowdhury alleged that BJP and BRS were working together, which explained their decision to abstain. She accused both parties of enacting a political drama to mislead the public. “BRS had a responsibility to stand with a Telugu leader after supporting the Telangana statehood movement,” she remarked.
She also made it clear that all Congress MPs were voting for Sudarshan Reddy, the INDIA bloc candidate. “Victory or defeat comes later, but we stand by him,” she said, stressing her party’s commitment.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Mallu Ravi expressed optimism about a surprise outcome. He predicted cross-voting could favor the INDIA bloc nominee. “If the INDIA candidate wins, democracy will survive,” Ravi said, adding that the mood of the nation was firmly in favor of the opposition alliance.
