Hyderabad’s Musi River revival project has reached a significant milestone as Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is set to lay the foundation for 39 new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) on September 26 . The initiative, overseen by the Water Board, aims to prevent untreated sewage from Outer Ring Road (ORR) municipal corporations and municipalities from entering the river.
Under the Amrit 2.0 scheme, the 39 STPs will be established using a hybrid annuity model, with 40% of the funding borne by the government (₹722.38 crore) and 60% by contract agencies (₹1,083.58 crore), totaling ₹1,805.97 crore. The government portion will be financed through a loan from HUDCO, which has already been approved.
As part of this effort, the Badhukammakunta STP in Amberpet, with a capacity of 212.5 MLD, has been completed in terms of civil works and landscaping . Officials confirmed that remaining finishing works will be completed within two days, marking a major step in Musi River’s rejuvenation.
