RJD Alleges Power Cuts, EC Denies Claims of Disruption

Bihar Assembly Elections 2025

The political heat rose during the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 as the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) accused authorities of cutting power at major polling booths. The party claimed electricity was being switched off at strong Mahagathbandhan booths to slow down voting. RJD posted on Instagram, urging the Election Commission to act immediately.

Soon after, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar rejected the allegations, calling them “baseless and misleading.” The Commission said voting across the state was running smoothly and transparently. It assured citizens that all standard election protocols were in place to ensure fair voting. Through its official X handle, the Commission appealed to voters to ignore false propaganda and cast their votes confidently.

Polling is underway for 121 seats in 18 districts, with nearly 3.75 crore voters eligible to participate. Voting continues until 6 pm, except in Naxal-affected regions where it ends at 5 pm for security reasons. This phase is crucial for several top leaders, including RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, BJP’s Samrat Chaudhary and Mangal Pandey, and JDU’s Shravan Kumar and Vijay Chaudhary.
