RJD leader and land dealer Rajkumar Rai, also known as Aala Yadav, was shot dead in Patna. The attack took place near Rajendra Nagar Terminal, just 70 meters from his home. Rai, originally from Raghopur in Vaishali district, was preparing to contest as an independent candidate from Raghopur Assembly constituency.
Two assailants opened fire, hitting him with six bullets. Supporters rushed him to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead. Police suspect the killing was linked to either a land dispute or political rivalry. CCTV footage and mobile tower data are being examined to identify the attackers.
Rai had earlier served as RJD’s Vaishali district president and previously contested elections from Raghopur. Locals confirmed he was preparing to re-enter politics. Apart from politics, he was also active in land dealings, which may have sparked disputes.
The police have launched an intensive investigation. An FSL team collected evidence, and Rai’s driver along with nearby witnesses are being questioned. Authorities believe the motive will be clear soon. Rai is survived by two wives and two daughters.
