Rockstar James Concert Attack has once again raised concerns over growing violence against artists in Bangladesh. A live concert by popular Bangladeshi singer James was cancelled after a mob attack in Faridpur, around 120 kilometres from Dhaka.
The concert was scheduled on Friday night at 9 pm to mark a school anniversary celebration. According to local reports, trouble erupted even before the show began. A group of people tried to force their way into the venue and started pelting stones and bricks at the crowd.
Eyewitnesses said students and attendees tried to resist the attackers. However, the situation quickly turned chaotic. Local authorities intervened and ordered the immediate cancellation of the concert to prevent further violence and injuries.
Renowned writer Taslima Nasrin reacted strongly to the incident on social media. She claimed that extremists stopped James from performing and described the attack as another example of growing threats to art and culture in Bangladesh.
The incident comes amid rising concerns over repeated attacks on artists, journalists, and cultural institutions across the country. In recent months, extremist groups have gained a stronger presence on the streets. Critics accuse the authorities of failing to act decisively against such violence.
The cancellation of James’ concert has sparked outrage among fans and cultural voices. Many fear that continued attacks will further shrink artistic freedom and public cultural expression in Bangladesh.
