Russia has announced its support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told state news agency TASS on Friday that Moscow would welcome Trump’s recognition for his role in trying to end the war in Ukraine.
The Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 will be announced at 0900 GMT. However, veteran observers believe Trump’s chances of winning remain slim. Despite this, Russia continues to emphasize its gratitude for Trump’s initiatives aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine.
The push for Trump’s Nobel candidacy took an interesting turn after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared remarks on Thursday. He said Kyiv would consider nominating Trump for the prestigious award if the U.S. leader could successfully broker a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.
Trump has openly expressed his desire to win the Nobel Prize in the past. His administration has tried to present him as a global peace negotiator, though critics remain skeptical.
While the Nobel committee’s final decision remains uncertain, the rare alignment of both Russia and Ukraine mentioning Trump in the context of the award highlights just how central his role in peace talks could become.
