A powerful earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck Russia’s eastern Kamchatka region, shaking the area late on Thursday. Seismologists confirmed the epicenter at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The quake hit 111.7 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the capital city of Kamchatka. Residents felt strong tremors, and many rushed outdoors for safety. Authorities are assessing the situation, but no casualties or property damage have been reported so far.
This incident follows another massive earthquake of 8.8 magnitude that shook the same region recently. Experts say Kamchatka lies in the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” one of the world’s most active seismic zones, where strong quakes occur frequently.
Emergency teams continue to monitor the area for aftershocks. Officials have urged residents to stay alert and follow safety instructions. Scientists are also evaluating potential risks to local infrastructure, including power lines and transport networks. People remain concerned about repeated tremors, but disaster management units are on standby to respond if conditions worsen.
