Russia Supports India’s AMCA Program, Offers to Manufacture Su-57 Jets Locally
Russia has expressed strong backing for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program and offered to collaborate by manufacturing Su-57 fighter jets in India. This move is seen as a significant boost to India’s efforts to enhance its indigenous defense capabilities. The Su-57 is Russia’s fifth-generation stealth fighter, and local production would deepen defense ties between the two countries.
In a related development, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent claim that India might halt oil imports from Russia. Alipov emphasized that “Russian energy remains the most cost-effective option on the global market,” underscoring the continuing strategic energy partnership between India and Russia despite geopolitical pressures.
This dual approach highlights Russia’s commitment to strengthening defense cooperation while maintaining its role as a key energy supplier to India. The developments were announced from New Delhi on October 16, 2025
