Russia-Ukraine War Intensifies: Long-Range Strikes and Escalating Attrition

Self-propelled artillery firing during the Russia-Ukraine conflict with intense explosions and smoke.

The Russia-Ukraine war continues to escalate, with both sides engaged in long-range strikes and heavy attrition on the battlefield. On August 23, 2025, Russian forces launched a series of missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv and Kharkiv. These strikes targeted military installations, infrastructure, and energy facilities, causing widespread damage and civilian casualties.

Ukraine, in response, has intensified its counterattacks, using precision missiles to target Russian supply lines and military equipment in eastern and southern Ukraine. The Ukrainian military reported successfully hitting key Russian artillery positions, causing significant disruption to their operations.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in a growing humanitarian crisis, with thousands of civilians displaced and countless others caught in the crossfire. Despite international calls for peace talks, the war shows no signs of abating, as both nations prepare for an extended war of attrition.

Western powers have continued to provide Ukraine with military aid, while Russia has responded with threats of further escalation. With no clear resolution in sight, the war seems set to drag on, further complicating the geopolitical landscape in Europe and beyond.
