Russian Strikes Batter Kyiv With Widespread Damage

Russian forces launched a large drone and missile assault on Kyiv early Friday, hitting several residential areas across the capital. The strikes triggered explosions and fires in multiple districts and damaged homes and key facilities.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the attack injured eleven people. Four victims remained in hospital, including a pregnant woman and one person in critical condition. Emergency crews moved through the city as debris, flames and falling fragments damaged apartment blocks, a school, a medical centre and administrative buildings.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said Russian forces used both drones and missiles in the assault. He noted that “many multi-storey buildings” suffered damage in nearly every district. Firefighters and rescue teams worked to control fires and evacuate residents.

The city’s heating system also took a hit, interrupting service in one district. Klitschko warned that power and water disruptions could follow.

Three high-rise buildings in the Dniprovskyi district were damaged, forcing nine residents to evacuate. Two buildings in Desnyanskyi and five more in the historic Podil district were also hit. Several structures caught fire.

Images on social media showed neighbourhoods in flames and residents standing in debris-filled streets. Officials in Kyiv region reported one more injury as drones and missiles struck nearby localities. Ukraine’s air force said other regions also faced guided bomb and drone attacks.
