Satheesan Slams Rejection of UDF Nominations in Local Body Polls
Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan criticised the large-scale rejection of nomination papers filed by United Democratic Front (UDF) candidates for the upcoming local body elections in Kerala. He alleged that the scrutiny process was misused to disqualify Opposition candidates in several constituencies, calling it an attempt to undermine democratic principles. Satheesan claimed that many nominations were rejected on trivial or fabricated grounds, while similar discrepancies in Left Democratic Front (LDF) nominations were overlooked. The UDF has accused election officials of acting under political pressure and demanded an immediate review of the rejected nominations. Satheesan warned that such actions erode public trust in the electoral system and called for strict adherence to impartial procedures. He added that the UDF would pursue legal and administrative remedies to ensure fairness in the election process. The controversy has heightened political tensions as campaigning intensifies ahead of the polls.
