Save Aravali campaign gathered strong support in Rajasthan as lawyers staged a major protest in Udaipur on Saturday.
Members of the Udaipur Bar Association marched to the district collectorate and raised slogans for Aravali protection.
Heavy police deployment followed as crowds swelled outside the collectorate premises.
Authorities also placed barricades to manage the situation.
Lawyers demanded immediate policy measures to conserve the Aravali mountain range.
They urged the state government to file a review petition in the Supreme Court.
Protesters opposed the court-backed proposal redefining Aravali hills by height.
Senior advocates warned that the new definition could exclude most hills from legal protection.
They said hills below 100 meters would lose safeguards and face unchecked mining.
Lawyers claimed nearly 90 percent of Aravali terrain could fall outside protection laws.
Advocate Rao Ratan Singh said Aravali exploitation already continues at an alarming pace.
He warned that mining expansion could turn the Mewar region into desert land.
Protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the President through the district collector.
The controversy began after a proposed scientific definition limited Aravali status to taller hills.
Environmental groups argue this move could allow construction and mining activities.
Lawyers stressed that Aravali preservation remains crucial for ecology and water security.
