Heavy rainfall continued to batter Puducherry and Karaikal, disrupting daily life and causing widespread waterlogging in residential colonies and major roads. In view of the intense rain, the Puducherry Home and Education Minister, A. Namassivayam, announced that all government and private schools, along with all colleges, will remain closed on Monday to ensure public safety.
Similarly, the District Collectors of Kallakurichi (M.S. Prasanth) and Ramanathapuram (Simranjeet Singh Kahlon) have declared a holiday for schools on Monday. Officials said the decision was taken keeping student safety as the top priority, especially considering the risk of flooding and weather-related emergencies.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), very heavy to extremely heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is likely in Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Tirunelveli, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in several other districts including Coimbatore, Kallakurichi, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Sivaganga, Tiruchirappalli, Tiruppur, and Villupuram.
