Scrub Typhus Deaths: Govt. Works With Experts to Find the Cause

Scrub Typhus Deaths investigation by government health experts

Scrub Typhus deaths have raised serious concern across the state, and the government is now working with medical experts to understand the sudden rise in fatal cases. Officials said Scrub Typhus deaths were not reported last year, making this year’s situation unusual and worrying.

Health Commissioner J. Nivas Veerapandian said the government wants clear scientific answers. He explained that experts will study why patients are developing severe symptoms and why the infection has become more dangerous this year.

Specialist teams will examine patient records, treatment patterns, and the spread of the disease. They will check whether delayed diagnosis, a stronger bacterial strain, or other medical factors led to the deaths.

The Health Department will also review hospital preparedness. Teams will verify whether early symptoms were missed and whether treatment guidelines are followed properly in all districts.

Officials said the investigation will begin soon. The government aims to prevent further loss of life by improving early detection and strengthening the response system.

The Health Commissioner advised people to seek medical help immediately if they develop fever, rashes, or body pain after visiting forests or farmland.
