Nanded police have arrested seven people following a violent clash and firing incident near the Langar Sahib Gurdwara at Naginaghat on Saturday evening. The arrests were made after a coordinated inter-district and inter-state operation involving specialized police teams.
The incident began when a dispute erupted between visiting pilgrims and local groups. Hotel operator Kamalpreet Singh Sindhu, 33, alleged that a pilgrim fired a gun at him inside his hotel, injuring his thigh. Sindhu said he was trying to intervene when the altercation escalated.
Another complainant, Lovepreet Singh Chahal, 21, claimed that Sindhu and several others attacked him and his companions with swords and sticks near the gurdwara. The violence reportedly stemmed from an earlier disagreement on January 2.
Police registered cross-FIRs, naming suspects from both sides. Cases were filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, covering charges including illegal possession and use of weapons.
Superintendent of Police Abinash Kumar said five special teams were deployed to various locations, including Punjab, Akola, Ardhapur, and Buldhana, to secure the arrests. Two accused were apprehended in Nanded, while five others were arrested in coordination with police from Akola and surrounding districts.
Kumar personally led the initial inspection at the scene and coordinated efforts to restore order. Authorities said further investigation is ongoing, and all arrested individuals will be produced before the court as per legal procedures.
Officials urged the public to maintain peace while the investigation continues. They highlighted that intelligence-led operations helped prevent further escalation of the conflict.
The Nanded Gurdwara firing case has drawn attention to security measures around religious sites and the need for vigilance during public gatherings.
