Severe Cold To Grip Odisha After December 5, IMD Warns, marking a strong return of winter across the state. The India Meteorological Department said that minimum temperatures will fall sharply once the brief warming phase ends. The Severe Cold To Grip Odisha After December 5, IMD Warns alert follows several nights when temperatures increased slightly in many districts.

IMD explained that two active weather systems over the Bay of Bengal created this temporary rise. These systems pushed moisture into the lower atmosphere and stopped the normal night cooling. Districts across coastal and interior Odisha saw minimum temperatures climb by two to three degrees.

One of the systems strengthened into Cyclone Ditwah near the Sri Lanka coast and moved toward the Chennai region. IMD said Odisha will not suffer direct damage, but the cyclone’s outer circulation has reduced night-time cooling in coastal areas.

The department said winter will return strongly after December 5. Cold winds and lower humidity will help temperatures drop again, especially during the night. Interior districts may feel a sharper fall as dry winds regain control.

Residents have been advised to prepare for colder nights as Odisha moves into a stronger winter phase.
