Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told the Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir (PoK) Assembly that “Kashmir will become a part of Pakistan.” He said this while speaking on Kashmir Solidarity Day, a day when Pakistan shows support for people in Kashmir. Sharif said he came to PoK to stand with “our brothers in Kashmir” on behalf of the Pakistani people and leadership. He repeated Pakistan’s long‑held position that it supports the Kashmiri people and wants their wishes to be respected, including United Nations resolutions on the dispute.
Sharif also said Pakistan wants peace, but that peace must be based on “equality and justice.” He recalled Pakistan’s history with the Kashmir issue and quoted his country’s founder, saying Kashmir is very important to Pakistan.
India rejects Pakistan’s claim and says the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are, and will always be, part of India.
