Shiromani Akali Dal performance in the district council and block committee elections remained stronger than that of Congress, party president Sukhbir Singh Badal said on Sunday.
He claimed that the Akali Dal effectively finished second across Punjab despite contesting fewer seats.
Badal stated that the party fought elections on 673 fewer seats than Congress.
He alleged that mass rejection of Akali Dal nomination papers reduced its electoral reach.
According to him, the Aam Aadmi Party government feared the party’s growing influence.
Badal made these remarks while honouring winning candidates at his residence in Sri Muktsar Sahib.
He accused the state government of misusing official machinery during the elections.
He said authorities rejected 1,024 Akali Dal nominations on unreasonable grounds.
He further alleged that AAP secured 351 block committee seats unopposed out of 2,838 seats.
Badal claimed this happened due to administrative pressure on opposition candidates.
Highlighting victories in Bathinda, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Faridkot, Badal said the party would form district council leaderships.
He added that Akali Dal would elect chairpersons in 15 assembly segments.
In Sri Muktsar Sahib, the party won both district council seats and 17 out of 20 block committee seats.
Badal also claimed several AAP ministers failed to win even in their home villages.
