A shocking incident took place in Patiala Central Jail where Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri’s killer, Sandeep Singh alias Sunny, brutally attacked three former Punjab police officials. The victims include ex-DSP Gurbachan Singh, retired Inspector Subba Singh, and dismissed Inspector Inderjit Singh. All three suffered severe head injuries and are now admitted to the ICU. Jail officials confirmed that Subba Singh’s condition remains extremely critical.
According to reports, Sunny used a pipe to assault the officers in the high-security barrack verandah. Authorities noted that all of them were kept separately due to threats from other inmates. Punjab IG (Prisons) Roop Kumar Arora has ordered a detailed probe into the matter, assuring strict action against the accused.
Notably, Sunny had earlier been shifted to the high-security barrack after receiving threats from inmates. He had shot Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri outside Gopal Mandir, Amritsar, in November 2022. Police have now registered a case under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Tripuri police station. Patiala SSP Varun Sharma stated that Sunny would be remanded to uncover the motive behind the assault.
The victims themselves carry criminal histories. Inderjit Singh was arrested in 2017 in a major drug and arms case and later booked by the Enforcement Directorate under PMLA in 2024. Subba Singh was convicted in a 1993 fake encounter case, while Gurbachan Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment for a 1992 fake encounter.
