Siang River Eco Tourism holds immense promise as a major environmental and adventure destination in Arunachal Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said on Friday. He shared this view after participating in a rafting expedition on the mighty Siang River while welcoming the New Year.
Posting on social media platform X, Mein said such experiences reflect the true spirit of Arunachal Pradesh. He highlighted the state’s rivers, adventure sports, and growing appeal as a sustainable tourism destination. He added that the Siang River offers unique opportunities to combine natural beauty with responsible tourism.
The deputy chief minister stressed that tourism can drive inclusive development across the state. He said eco-tourism and adventure sports can generate livelihoods for local communities while preserving the fragile environment. According to him, initiatives like river rafting showcase the Siang’s vast capacity to emerge as a hub for nature-based tourism.
Mein further noted that promoting sustainable tourism remains a key priority for the state government. He said the focus stays on balancing economic growth with environmental protection. The government aims to encourage private participation, local entrepreneurship, and skill development in tourism-linked sectors.
He added that such efforts strengthen Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to adventure tourism, eco-friendly travel, and long-term livelihood creation. The Siang River, he said, can become a symbol of sustainable growth rooted in nature.
