On Constitution Day, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang called for a renewed commitment to the values enshrined in the Indian Constitution, urging citizens to strengthen democracy by embracing justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. Leading the mass reading of the Preamble, he said the spirit of the day must extend beyond ceremonial observance and be reflected in everyday conduct.
Tamang stated that the nation draws strength from its constitutional foundations, and citizens—especially the youth—must protect these ideals to ensure social harmony and inclusive growth. He highlighted that Sikkim CM Constitution Ideals remain crucial for shaping a society where every individual feels valued and empowered.
The Chief Minister urged people to take inspiration from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Constitution, whose vision continues to guide India toward equality and social justice. He said Ambedkar’s teachings offer a roadmap for eliminating discrimination, strengthening democracy, and fostering unity in diversity.
Tamang noted that constitutional values are not meant only for governance but are essential for building a compassionate society. “Justice, liberty and equality must be practiced in families, institutions and communities. Only then can we create a truly inclusive India,” he added.
He also highlighted the importance of safeguarding fundamental rights while fulfilling fundamental duties, saying both are pillars that support the growth of the nation. The youth, he said, play a decisive role in carrying forward this responsibility by making informed choices, promoting peace and upholding democratic ethics.
Tamang concluded that Sikkim’s development journey will be stronger when citizens collectively adhere to constitutional morality and work towards a society that respects dignity, tolerance and equality for all.
