SIT Moves Closer to Fixing Legal Liability in Sabarimala Artefacts Case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the illegal removal of artefacts from Sabarimala is moving closer to determining the legal liability of individuals involved in chartering the sacred items for private worship. Video evidence shows the main suspect, Unnikrishnan Potti, performing rituals with gold-plated panels that cover the sanctum sanctorum doorway, as well as moulds of the Dwarapalakas, on the premises of affluent patrons. The footage has become a key piece of evidence in establishing the chain of custody and potential misuse of these priceless religious artefacts. Investigators are examining whether the act of offering puja to these items outside the temple constitutes a breach of trust under temple administration laws and criminal statutes. The SIT is also scrutinising financial transactions and communications that facilitated the movement of the artefacts. Legal experts note that the case could set a precedent regarding the protection of sacred objects and accountability in cases of temple property misappropriation.
