Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Kharge to Visit Bandlapalli Ahead of MGNREGA Protest
Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge are expected to visit Bandlapalli in Andhra Pradesh ahead of the February 5 MGNREGA Andolan. Bandlapalli holds historical significance as the site where the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) was launched in 2006, marking a milestone in India’s rural employment initiatives.
The proposed visit comes as part of Congress’s preparations for a nationwide campaign highlighting what the party describes as the Modi government’s dilution of rural workers’ rights. Leaders have stated that the Andolan aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by workers under MGNREGA, including delayed payments, reduced workdays, and lack of proper implementation at the grassroots level.
By visiting Bandlapalli, Congress aims to reinforce its commitment to rural employment and wage security while drawing attention to the historical importance of MGNREGA. The party plans to mobilize public support and strengthen its campaign through local engagements and speeches in the region.
