Srisailam Reservoir Gates Lifted as Flood Inflows Rise

Srisailam reservoir gates lifted to release flood inflows amid heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh

Heavy inflows from upstream areas continue to reach the Srisailam reservoir, forcing authorities to lift the gates once again. On Saturday, officials raised three radial crest gates by 10 feet for the fifth time this year to release excess water.

At present, the reservoir is receiving an inflow of 2,26,192 cusecs, while the outflow stands at 1,49,104 cusecs. The full reservoir level is 885 feet, but water has already reached 883.90 feet. Power generation is currently active at both the left and right bank hydropower stations, helping manage water levels while producing electricity.

Officials confirmed that inflows from upstream areas are increasing steadily. They are monitoring the situation closely and assured that necessary measures will be taken to maintain safe levels. Authorities also appealed to people in low-lying areas to remain cautious.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department forecast heavy rains in several parts of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday and Sunday. Widespread showers are expected to further add to reservoir inflows. The department urged residents to stay alert and follow safety advisories during this period of intense rainfall.
