Starlink to Hold Satellite Internet Demos in Mumbai

Starlink to hold satellite broadband demos in Mumbai to meet India’s security and technical standards.

Elon Musk’s Starlink will hold satellite broadband demos in Mumbai on October 30 and 31. The company aims to prove compliance with India’s security and technical standards before starting commercial services.

Officials said Starlink will use provisional spectrum for these runs. Law enforcement teams will observe the trials to verify the company’s compliance with the GMPCS authorisation rules. These demos mark a key step toward Starlink’s entry into the Indian satellite broadband market.

India now allows full foreign investment in the satellite communication sector. Over ten players, including Reliance Jio-SES and Bharti’s OneWeb, have joined the market. With more than 7,500 satellites, Starlink plans to bridge India’s internet gaps, especially in rural areas.

The Indian government said Starlink must store all user data and network traffic within the country. The move aligns with India’s data security policy. Satellite broadband is expected to improve internet access, boost digital inclusion, and strengthen national connectivity.
